The CatScram silent electronic cat repellent is easy to use. Just turn it on and place it so it faces the area you want to be cat free. CatScram watches around the clock so you don’t have to. When the CatScram electronic cat repellent detects motion, it emits a high-pitched electronic squeal that frightens cats away quickly. Just think! No more yakballs on your floor or cat urine marking the expensive couch. And unlike many sonic cat repellent devices, the CatScram cat repellent is completely inaudible to humans and most dogs!

How it works
The CatScram utilizes a passive infrared motion detector to sense when the cat nears the protected area. The unit then emits a series of strong (but harmless) pulsating ultrasonic waves. These ultrasonic waves are loud and frightening, so cats avoid the guarded area altogether. And because it uses sound waves to create an exclusion zone, no bulky self-correcting collar needs to be worn by the cat.

Range and Affected Area
Catscram cat repellent guards a six-foot range when placed on the floor or other flat surface, and up to a 15-foot range or more when elevated or tilted off a flat surface. It’s beam covers a 170° arc, roughly the same as you what you can see from left to right without moving your head. The beam does not bend around corners or penetrate fabrics, allowing you to place the unit on a kitchen counter or couch, without restricting your cats access to the floor below.

CatScram cat repellent emits a series of pulsating ultrasonic sound waves for four seconds each time movement is detected and the LED flashes four times simultaneously. The CatScram uses a passive infrared motion sensor to detect when the cat nears the 90 degree protected area. The result-your cat becomes irritated by the sound, and moves out of the protected area. . . and off your furniture, kitchen counter tops, or whatever!

CatScram Operation:
CatScram cat repellent uses a 9-volt, alkaline battery (not included) or a 9-volt, AC/DC adapter which can be purchased inexpensively in our online store. Adapter must be center positive (+). If the unit is to be used in one place, using the adapter (rather than buying batteries) can be very economical.

Hearing Impaired Cats:
White cats, by nature are hard of hearing and may not respond to this device. Some older, exotic breads, and Maine Coons may also not respond. Note: See return Information (below) for additional information.

Power Usage
The CatScram uses very little power and has an LED to indicate when the 9-volt battery is low. However, The unit can consume batteries quickly if activated frequently. Frequent activation is most common in high traffic areas like kitchens and bedrooms. If you intend to place the CatScram in a high traffic area we recommend you purchase an AC Adapter is not to power the unit.

CatScram LED Indicators:

• Warm-Up Indicator: When switched on, the CatScram cat repellent warms up for 40 seconds. During this time, the LED flashes once per 1.4 seconds for the first 32 seconds and increases to 4 flashes per 1.4 seconds during the last 8 seconds.
• Triggering Indicator: After it is warmed up, the CatScram cat repellent goes to work. The unit emits a series of pulsating ultrasonic waves for 4 seconds each time movement is detected and the LED flashes 4 time simultaneously.
• Low Battery Indicator: During the 40-second, warm-up period, if "Low Battery" occurs, the battery voltage is 7 volts or less. The LED will continue 8 flashes and the unit will shut down. Replace the battery immediately.

Warranty & Return Information:

• PowerHouse Products warrants the CatScram cat repellent to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for 90 days. If your CatScram cat repellent is found to be defective within that time, PowerHouse Products will repair or replace your CatScram.

• If you find the CatScram cat repellent to be ineffective on your pet, you may return it within 30 days for a full refund (less shipping charges). In order to qualify for a refund, we must receive the unit in re-saleable condition within 30 days.

• Can the CatScram cause long term hearing problems for my cat? No. The effect of the CatScram is not unlike your alarm clock jarring you awake in the morning or a car beeping it's horn unexpectedly. No harm will be done by intermittent exposure to the CatScram and your cat will soon learn to avoid the affected area. However, it is important to note that the cat must not be confined to the area affected by the CatScram. The noise is loud and irritating, and if your can were confined near the unit a number of bad things could result including permanent hearing loss, aggressive behavior, and other psychological problems. All are very similar to what would happen to a human forcibly confined to the front row of a rock concert.
• Is the CatScram cat repellent on all the time or is the CatScram motion activated? The CatScram electronic pet repellent device is motion activated. As a result, and the CatScram electronic pet repellent device will be triggered by any motions. Even when active people will not be able to detect the sound emitted by the CatScram.
• Is the CatScram cat repellent safe around children? Yes. People won't notice the CatScram is even on unless they placed the unit directly up to their ear. But because you cannot hear it doesn't mean that it isn't very loud. If the unit were placed close to your ear, you would experience a sudden sharp ear pain just as if you were too close to a smoke alarm or car horn**. Because of the potential for hearing damage we recommend you locate the device where children will not be tempted to play with the unit. **NOTE: DO NOT place the unit near your ear to test. Doing so may cause permanent hearing damage. 
• Can the CatScram cat repellent be used in a baby's room? Yes, but some precautions are necessary. The unit cannot be heard, but it is still a very loud sonic device. Always place the unit at least 10ft from any bed or crib, and place the unit so it is facing away from the bed/crib. If that is impossible, locate the unit so it is blocked by a solid object such as a wall or bookcase. There have been rare cases where young children have been able to hear the unit in operation. If you notice irritation, crying, pulling at the ears, or other signs that lead you to believe they are being affected by the unit, discontinue use immediately.
• Can people hear the CatScram cat repellent? No. The frequency emitted by the CatScram is well outside the hearing range of humans and dogs. In rare cases, a cat may not respond to the CatScram. This happens because some cats lack the capability to hear noises as high pitched as that emitted by the CatScram. This is more common in older cats who have lost some hearing range, very young cats who have not yet fully developed, and occasionally in rare purebreds. No testing on other types of animals has been performed at this time .
• Is the CatScram cat repellent effective on dogs? No. The frequency emitted by the CatScram is well outside the hearing range of humans and dogs. In rare cases, some owners have reported that their dogs were affected. If that occurs, you may continue using the unit as long at it functions as desired. No testing on other types of animals has been performed at this time, but it is believed that hamsters, guinea pigs, and other rodents are affected.
• My cat is unaffected, is he deaf or hard of hearing? That is very unlikely. About 5% of cats do not respond to the CatScram. Sometimes this happens because the cat lacks the capability to hear noises in the frequency range used. This is more common in older cats who have lost some hearing range, very young cats who have not yet fully developed their sense of hearing, and occasionally in rare purebreds. Much more commonly, however, unaffected cats are just very brave and/or fearless. They hear the unit, but just aren't bothered by it. If you find this to be the case, you may return it within 30 days for a full refund as detailed in our product warranty
• Can my cat build up a resistance to the CatScram? Yes, cats can develop a 'resistance to the CatScram cat repellent. This type of response to the CatScram is not common, but does happen occasionally. Perhaps an explanation of how the CatScram repellent works will be helpful. The CatScram cat repellent works primarily on fear. Cats are easily startled animals and a sudden loud and offensive noise like that produced by the CatScram is very frightening to them. Their self preservation instincts kick in an tell them to avoid the area protected by the CatScram. Because some cats are more fearless than others, they are willing to brave 'danger' posted by the CatScram cat repellent. Once they do this a few times and discover that they will not be harmed by the CatScram, they just begin to ignore the CatScram altogether. If a cat loses it's fear of the CatScram cat repellent, it can be difficult to regain. However, many customers find success by relocating the CatScram, taking it away for awhile, and trying other methods of changing the environment around.
• How does the CatScram cat repellent work? The CatScram cat repellent works primarily on a cats instinctive behavior. Cats are easily startled animals and a sudden loud and offensive noise like that produced by the CatScram is very frightening to them. Their self preservation instincts kick in an tell them to avoid the area protected by the CatScram.
• Is the unit waterproof? No, the CatScram unit is not waterproof. It can, however be used outdoors by locating it in a weather protected location. Some of our customers have gotten very creative, building it into birdhouse looking shelters, overturned flowerpots, etc.
